Pune: Sunday excitement will return to the city on February 12 with Happy Streets on Cummins India Office Road near Balewadi High Street.
Citizens of Baner and Balewadi will be able to participate in the outdoor event, which combines fun, fitness and laughter, for the next three Sundays.
After livening up different parts of the city, the three-hour event is now slated to be held on the road opposite Balewadi High Street in Baner. The other side of the road will operate as a two-way street during the event.
The community event will offer over a dozen fun activities for participants of all age groups. Besides, the vehicle-free stretch earmarked for the event, Happy Streets is also the ideal place to meet friends and neighbours or simply unwind with the entire family.
Leading the line up of activities is the ever popular Zumba, dance and aerobics-based fitness routines, along with sports activities like badminton, street soccer and cycling. Rent-free cycles will be made available for use around the venue on providing satisfactory identity proof. Meditation sessions will be conducted for those who wish to calm their nerves and connect with their inner selves.
Children too can make the most of the event with plenty of kids-centric activities to choose from in the Game Zone and Kids Arena. Chalk art is also sure to entice the children.
A workshop on making toys from trash and adventure camp-based activities will be organized, providing engagement for the entire family.
Besides, there will be plenty of music-based activities too, including multiple rounds of drum circle and a VJ Live stage for participants to display their talent.
Residents of the area are eagerly awaiting the event. Describing their own preparations for the Sunday outing, member of Baner Balewadi Residents Association (BBRA) Sanjeev Singh said, “The excitement has been building up among residents ever since we heard the event is coming to our area. Many of us have planned to participate in activities like hip-hop dance and laughter therapy. People will also bring their own sports equipments to the venue,” he said.
An e-waste collection drive will be organized by the volunteers of BBRA, Singh informed.
Happy Streets is organized by The Times of India and Maharashtra Times in conjunction with Pune Police, Pune Traffic Police and Pune Municipal Corporation. The event, powered by Vilas Javdekar Developers, is aimed at popularizing the concept of vehicle-free roads for engaging community activities.
