Every year India celebrates The Joy of Giving Week or now called the Daan Utsav from the 2nd to 8th of October. Goonj has been an integral part of this festival from day one, celebrating the joy of giving as one of our strongest core values. Here’s a great chance for us to sit together, brainstorm on how we as individuals can do something meaningful for some ignored issues in the country.. especially in the week.
GOONJ (means an echo) www.goonj.org ;www.facebook.com/goonj.org a multi award winningpan India social enterprise, uses the underutilized material of cities as a tool for fueling wide spread development work across village India. Dealing with more than 3000 tons of material annually, Goonj has thus turned this material into a parallel currency, reached out with dignity to rural communities. Rural communities take up more than 3000 different development activities annually, addressing their own issues like recharging water bodies, rebuilding local infrastructure, education etc. Goonj’s work has also led to systematic changes in disaster relief & rehabilitation work apart from opening up the most taboo issue of menstrual hygiene and providing clean cotton cloth as a viable solution.
